Brothers Kevin and Nick Ammerlaan grow sweetbite peppers at their nursery in Maasland. The nurserymen learnt their trade from their father John Ammerlaan, and now have their own site covering 1.8 hectares.
Growing and packing snack peppers is a labour-intensive process, since the packaging plays an important role. Kevin explains: “The sweetbites are packed in attractive bags with red, yellow and orange variants, which you can sell like that as a snack in petrol stations, for example. I think we have the same number of staff as a nursery which grows 4 hectares of peppers, in order to ensure that everything works as flexibly as possible. We’re always looking new possibilities. “
